I Made You a Muxtape →
Five gold stars, a cup of coffee and my undying affection to the person who can name the underlying element that ties all of these songs together.
Forced Gestures [Office Drudgery]
A lady brings me two clear plastic folders marked “circulation.” Inside lies a form and a birthday card. The top of the form is a list of everyone in the office, some with checkmarks next to their name. At the bottom is the name of someone who has an upcoming birthday. The birthday card is brown and has “Happy Birthday” stamped on the front and a slew of notes and...
The Grand Illusion: The Real Tim Ferriss Speaks →
Tim Ferriss wrote The 4-Hour Workweek, which I read and absorbed last year. Gimmicky title aside, the book was a game changer for me. Ferriss described how to work smarter, not harder, by leveraging time management, carefully choosing customers and utilizing personal assistants.
To prove his method to non-believers, Ferriss began an experiment fit for The Wizard of Oz. Today he made made his...
New look for Eiffel Tower →
This looks like a joke - but it’s entirely real…and I think it’s great. I want to meet the man that has the balls to mess with the Eiffel Tower.
Muxtape Keeps The Mixtape Concept Alive →
muxtape: Wired: “The mixtape is gone for most intents and purposes, but the idea of assembling a few tunes for one’s friends is very much a thing of the present. Muxtape is the latest service we’ve seen that lets users assemble mixtape-like playlists online, and it might be our favorite.”
This site launched just yesterday. And already it’s a hit. I made you a Muxtape:...
I explained Rickrollin’ to Sarah last night and she’s already behind the times.
The latest is now Wikrollin’
A Wikroll is when a person rudely interrupts an on-line conversation to provide a link that seems to have nothing to do with the topic at hand, claiming that it goes to the video for Rick Astley’s “Never Gonna Give You Up.” But the link...
Dave Eggers speaking at TED 2008 about his work creating the 826 Valencia tutoring center. This video hit me so hard I don’t know how to describe it without embarassing myself.

The Seven Laws of Higher Self-Esteem: #4 →
Use the Internet more, because the Internet is not going to use itself.
Oh Tim, only you could make a white man blush.

The Envy of America
Kienan posted this awhile ago and for some reason I didn’t link to it at the time. I’ve since gone back and re-read it three more times. Because Kienan is in Puerto Rico and not connected to the blogosphere, I’ll spread his message in absentia.
You may not have sold your first company for a billion dollars before the age of 25 or been on the cover of The New York Times (yet),...
Rent vs. Buy Myths That Ruined the Housing Market →
I’ve been saying for a long time that owning your own home isn’t as great as common wisdom says it is. Finally, with the housing market collapsing like its made of sticks, more people are coming to the same realization.
The reason I don’t want to own is almost entirely non-finance related, however.
I don’t have to mow the lawn
I don’t have to pay property taxes

Getting Writing Done: How to Stop Thinking About... →
I just finished reading the Dave Eggers’ novel You Shall Know Our Velocity. I didn’t enjoy it as much as I did his first, but there were still moments I got goosebumps from the literary genius that is Mr. Eggers. Here are a few parts that most impacted me:
“Not the first world,” she continued, “the world we are from, not the second or third world, so many people...
Hipsters and Festivals
I went to the Pitchfork Festival last year with my brother. Upon leaving to catch the ‘L’ he declared, “See you next year…hipsters.”
I convinced him this year to attend Lollapalooza in place of Pitchfork because I’d be living in Chicago by then and would have a place to stay. He just sent me an email that read, “i lied to the hipsters…”

Secular Sabbath - Unplugging Once a Week
I was recently directed to a New York Times article on a new trend: the Secular Sabbath.
The concept: Once a week, the brethren disconnect from technology and allow themselves to enjoy a day free of modern distractions. I began doing this on Sundays a few weeks ago independent of anything I’d read online - but it’s interesting to know that others reached the same need or concept. ...

On Money
Get Rich Slowly is a blog about personal finance. They often have great advice about investing, saving, etc. I read one post a few days ago, however, and what might sound like standard financial advice actually struck a wrong chord with me. An excerpt:
“‘I’ve lived in the same house for 28 years,’ I say to my friends. ‘My house is paid for. Is yours? My car is paid for. Is...
